That Closes the Gap.

Wix's built-in cookie banner handles its own native scripts. But Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, TikTok, Hotjar, and every other tool you connected through Wix's marketing integrations panel? Those fire regardless. ConsentPixel — Privacy · Verified closes that gap — one Custom Code snippet, no App Market installation, full GDPR, CCPA, and CIPA compliance.

The Wix Privacy Gap Most Site Owners Don't Know Exists

Wix introduced a proper consent banner in 2024 through a partnership with Usercentrics. It is a meaningful improvement over the old native notice — and for many small Wix sites using only Wix's built-in analytics, it provides adequate coverage. But there is a gap that catches most Wix site owners off guard.

Wix's built-in banner handles Wix-native scripts — Wix Analytics, Wix Stores tracking, Wix Chat. When a visitor declines analytics cookies, Wix's own tools stop collecting data. That part works. But the tools most Wix site owners actually rely on for marketing are connected differently — through Wix's marketing integrations panel or injected via Custom Code. And those integrations fire independently of what Wix's built-in banner does.

⚠ The Wix Gap Wix's built-in banner does not cover third-party integrations

When you connect Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, TikTok, or Hotjar through Wix's marketing integrations panel — or inject them via Custom Code — those scripts operate outside the control of Wix's built-in consent banner. A visitor who declines analytics cookies through the Wix banner may still have their behaviour tracked by every third-party tool you have connected.

📊 Marketing integrations panel

GA4, Meta Pixel, Google Ads, TikTok, and Pinterest connected via Settings → Marketing Integrations fire independently of the Wix consent banner. No blocking occurs on decline.

🔥 Custom Code scripts

Hotjar, Clarity, Klaviyo, live chat tools, and any script added via Settings → Custom Code fire on every page load. Wix's banner has no visibility or control over these.

📡 No GPC signal detection

Wix's built-in banner cannot detect the Global Privacy Control browser signal. California, Colorado, Virginia, and Connecticut visitors with GPC active are not automatically opted out.

🔖 No GCM v2 for third-party tags

Wix's built-in banner does not pass Google Consent Mode v2 parameters to third-party Google tags loaded via Custom Code. EU/UK visitors who decline disappear from your campaigns.

Wix Plan Compatibility — What You Need to Know First

Before installing ConsentPixel — or any third-party consent tool — on Wix, it is important to understand that custom code injection is a paid-plan feature. Free Wix sites cannot run third-party tracking tools at all, which also means they carry significantly less compliance exposure.

Wix PlanCustom Code Available?Third-Party Tracking Possible?ConsentPixel Compatible?
Free✗ No✗ No✗ No — upgrade required

Core✓ Yes✓ Yes✓ Full support
Business✓ Yes✓ Yes✓ Full support
Business Elite✓ Yes✓ Yes✓ Full support
💡
If you upgraded to a paid Wix plan to run Google Analytics or Meta Pixel, you need a proper consent solution. The reason free plans don't need this is that they can't run any third-party tracking tools at all. The moment you upgrade to Core or above and connect GA4, Meta Pixel, or any other marketing integration, you have created a compliance obligation that Wix's built-in banner does not fully cover.

Trackers Commonly Running on Wix Sites

These are the tools most frequently running on paid Wix sites — connected either through Wix's marketing integrations panel or injected via Custom Code — and the privacy law exposure each creates when running without proper consent management.

📊
Google Analytics 4
GDPR · CCPA · GCM v2
Connected via Wix's Google integration or added via Custom Code. Must not fire before GDPR consent. Requires all four GCM v2 parameters for EEA/UK visitors.
📘
Meta Pixel
GDPR · CCPA · CIPA
Connected through Wix's Meta integration. Captures page views, add-to-cart, and purchase events. Fires independently of Wix's consent banner on decline.
🎯
Google Ads / Tag Manager
GDPR · GCM v2 Required
GTM injected via Custom Code. GCM v2 default block must fire before GTM loads in head — Wix's built-in banner does not handle this for third-party GTM installations.
🔥
Hotjar / Clarity
GDPR · CIPA
Added via Custom Code. Session-replay on Wix eCommerce checkout pages creates $5,000/visitor CIPA exposure. Wix's banner has no control over Custom Code scripts.
🎵
TikTok Pixel
GDPR · CCPA
Connected via Wix's TikTok integration. Fires independently of consent banner. Under heightened regulatory scrutiny for cross-border data transfers in 2026.
📧
Klaviyo / Mailchimp
GDPR · CCPA
Email marketing integrations inject onsite tracking via Custom Code. Identify visitors and build behavioural profiles before consent is established.
Pinterest Tag
GDPR · CCPA
Connected via Wix's Pinterest integration. Shares product view and conversion events. Fires independently of the Wix consent banner on visitor decline.
💬
Live Chat (Tidio, Crisp)
GDPR · CCPA
Chat widgets added via Custom Code set persistent session identifiers and transmit interaction data. Not controlled by Wix's consent banner.
🛍
Wix Stores + eCommerce Tracking
GDPR · CCPA
Wix's native eCommerce tracking is handled by the built-in banner — but third-party conversion tags for the same checkout events are not. Both may fire simultaneously.

How to Install ConsentPixel on Wix

ConsentPixel installs on Wix via the Custom Code panel — available on all paid Wix plans (Core, Business, Business Elite). The installation takes under five minutes and requires no developer access. The pixel must be added to the Head section and must load before all other Custom Code scripts to ensure pre-consent blocking works correctly.

1

Create your ConsentPixel account and scan your Wix site

Sign up at consentpixel.com, add your Wix site domain, and run the auto-scanner. ConsentPixel maps every tracker across your site — including those connected through Wix's marketing integrations panel and any Custom Code injections. Copy your unique pixel snippet from the dashboard.

2

Add ConsentPixel via Wix Custom Code

In your Wix dashboard, go to Settings → Custom Code → + Add Custom Code. Configure as follows:

  • Name: ConsentPixel
  • Add Code to Pages: All Pages
  • Place Code in: Head
  • Load: Once

Paste your ConsentPixel pixel snippet in the code field and click Apply.

Wix Custom Code — Head — All Pages — Load Once
<!-- ConsentPixel — must be first in Head -->
<script
  src="https://pixel.consentpixel.com/YOUR-SITE-ID.js"
  async></script>
3

Move ConsentPixel to the top of your Custom Code list

In the Custom Code panel, you can drag and reorder scripts. Make sure ConsentPixel appears first in the Head section — above any Google Analytics snippet, GTM snippet, Meta Pixel code, or any other tracking script you have added. This load order is critical: ConsentPixel must establish the visitor's consent state before any other script fires.

Note: Tracking scripts for GA4, GTM, and Meta Pixel connected through Wix's native marketing integrations panel (Settings → Marketing Integrations) are managed separately by Wix and load via their own mechanism. Register these tools in ConsentPixel's dashboard so ConsentPixel can intercept and block them as well.

4

Register your marketing integrations in ConsentPixel

In the ConsentPixel dashboard, register each tool by consent category: Analytics (GA4, Wix Analytics), Marketing (Meta Pixel, Google Ads, TikTok, Pinterest), Functional (live chat), Session Recording (Hotjar, Clarity). For integrations connected through Wix's panel, select the "Wix Integration" source type so ConsentPixel knows how to intercept them.

5

Enable Google Consent Mode v2

Enable GCM v2 in your ConsentPixel dashboard. This injects all four parameters — analytics_storage, ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization — before any Google tag fires on your Wix site. Protects Google Ads conversion measurement for EU and UK visitors. Required for all EEA/UK Google Ads campaigns since March 2024.

6

Decide whether to keep or disable Wix's built-in banner

You have two options: run ConsentPixel alongside Wix's built-in banner (with Wix's banner handling Wix-native scripts, ConsentPixel handling everything else), or disable Wix's built-in banner and let ConsentPixel handle everything. The cleaner approach is to disable Wix's built-in banner under Settings → Privacy → Cookie Banner → Off and let ConsentPixel present a single, unified consent experience to all visitors.

💡
Important: Wix doesn't allow body-start injection for scripts. Wix only reliably supports Head code injection for tracking scripts — the body-start option exists but is treated as a fallback for no-JavaScript environments. Always place ConsentPixel in Head. Wix's documentation confirms that tracking scripts for GA4, GTM, and Facebook Pixel must use Wix's marketing integrations rather than Custom Code for full functionality — but ConsentPixel can intercept both paths when registered correctly in the dashboard.

What ConsentPixel Does for Your Wix Site

🛡️

Closes the Wix integration gap

Intercepts and blocks marketing integrations (GA4, Meta Pixel, TikTok, Google Ads) and Custom Code scripts (Hotjar, Klaviyo, chat tools) before the visitor's consent state is established — the gap Wix's built-in banner leaves open.

📡

Google Consent Mode v2 — correct order

Injects all four GCM v2 parameters as the first Head script, before any Wix Google integration or GTM container fires. Non-consenting EU/UK visitors are modelled by Google rather than disappearing from campaign reports.

🌐

GPC browser signal detection

Automatically detects the Global Privacy Control browser signal and suppresses targeted advertising scripts for California, Colorado, Virginia, and Connecticut visitors — mandatory in all four states and not supported by Wix's built-in banner.

🔥

CIPA session-replay protection

Blocks Hotjar, Clarity, Lucky Orange, and any session-replay tool added via Custom Code until explicit consent is given. Eliminates $5,000/visitor CIPA exposure on Wix eCommerce and booking sites serving California visitors.

📋

Full consent audit log

Every consent decision is timestamped with banner version, category choices, and signal source. Exportable for GDPR accountability documentation and regulatory investigations.

🔍

Continuous site scanning

ConsentPixel scans your Wix site on a schedule and alerts you when new trackers appear — including when Wix updates its native integrations or adds new tracking to your connected tools without notification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wix includes a built-in banner powered by a Usercentrics partnership (since 2024). It handles Wix-native scripts automatically but does not block third-party marketing integrations (GA4, Meta Pixel, TikTok) or Custom Code scripts (Hotjar, Klaviyo, GTM). It also has no Global Privacy Control detection and does not pass all four GCM v2 parameters to third-party Google tags. For any paid Wix site running marketing integrations, ConsentPixel closes these gaps.
Go to Settings → Custom Code → Add Custom Code in your Wix dashboard. Set placement to Head, Pages to All Pages, and Load to Once. Paste the ConsentPixel snippet and make sure it is listed first in the Head section — above any other Custom Code scripts. No App Market installation, no developer needed. Available on all paid Wix plans (Core, Business, Business Elite).
Yes — if your Wix site uses Hotjar, Clarity, or any session-replay tool added via Custom Code, and receives visitors from California, CIPA applies. Wix's built-in banner has no visibility or control over Custom Code scripts. $5,000 per affected California visitor, no proof of harm required. ConsentPixel blocks all session-replay Custom Code scripts until explicit consent is given.
No — Custom Code injection is only available on paid Wix plans (Core, Business, Business Elite). However, free plan sites cannot connect GA4, Meta Pixel, GTM, or any third-party marketing tool either — so the compliance exposure is minimal. Any site that has upgraded to a paid plan specifically to run marketing tracking should also have proper consent management in place.
Yes — but the implementation requires care. GCM v2 must fire as the first Head script before any Google tag loads. ConsentPixel handles this automatically by injecting all four parameters via Custom Code in Head, before Wix's Google integration scripts fire. Without ConsentPixel or similar, EU and UK visitors who decline consent disappear entirely from your Google Ads conversion reports and campaign optimisation.
Yes — disabling Wix's built-in banner (Settings → Privacy → Cookie Banner → Off) and letting ConsentPixel handle all consent is the cleanest approach. Running both simultaneously can result in two banners appearing to visitors, conflicting consent records, and duplicate opt-out mechanisms. ConsentPixel covers everything the built-in banner covers plus the third-party integrations and Custom Code scripts it misses.
